Pre authorized tabs offer a flexible and secure way to manage customer orders in your restaurant. Pre auth verifies the card's validity and temporarily reserves funds to cover the order, reducing the risk of unpaid bills. This approach is particularly useful for bars, or restaurants with a high volume of takeout orders.
Enabling Pre Auth is optional and up to the restaurant's discretion
Follow the steps below to apply a pre auth to an order:
- From any screen, tap the Open Tab button at the top of the screen
- Once the window opens, best practice is to dip the chip of the credit card so that the cardholder name is automatically added. You can also type in the customer's name, and any note you may have. If you don't chip the card, it will show "{card name} Cardholder" automatically
- If a tab has a pre-authorization and an unpaid balance, you can quickly close it by tapping the Pre Auth quick pay button at the bottom of the order screen using the authorized card
- If you need to cancel a pre-authorization to use a different payment method, go to the Payment Screen, tap the credit card icon and then select the red X from the dropdown list
- To confirm the action, tap Yes in the popup window
Once pre auth is canceled, a new form of payment will need to be obtained as this action is final and cannot be undone
