Charging the Ingenico Moby 5500 Device

The Ingenico Moby/5500 operates on battery power and must be charged to function correctly. A battery indicator light on the side of the reader shows the charge level. When connected to a power source, the indicator will confirm the charging status.

Follow the instructions below for charging in different setups and troubleshooting steps if charging issues arise.

Mobile PAD Setup

The Ingenico device is housed in a case with the iPad Mini, as shown below, and is connected via a Y-cable that allows both devices to charge through a single outlet.

  1. Locate the Charging Port:
The charging port is on the side opposite the indicator lights

    Connect the Cable:

    • Plug the USB-C end of the dual USB cable into this port
    • Plug the other end of the USB cable into a 12-watt wall adapter or a charging station port
    • If using the adapter, plug it into a power outlet
  2. Power On: Wait for the red battery indicator light to turn on

  3. First-Time Setup: For first-time charging, let the device charge for at least 3 hours before use
Stationary (Docked) Setup:

Docked payment devices remain plugged in and powered continuously. To charge:

  1. Seat the Ingenico Device in the Dock:
Ensure the USB-C port on the device lines up with the dock's USB-C connection.

    • Plug the USB end of the cable into a 12-watt power adapter.
  2. Power On:
    • Plug the power adapter into a power outlet.
    • Wait for the red battery indicator light to confirm charging.

Sometimes, removing the Ingenico device from its case is necessary to confirm that it charges correctly on its own.

  1. Connect the Cable Directly to the Ingenico Device:
    • Plug the USB-C end of the cable into the USB-C port on the bottom of the Ingenico device.

  2. Connect to Power:
    • Plug the other end of the cable into a 12-watt wall adapter or a charging station port.
    • If using the adapter, plug it into a power outlet.
    • Wait for the red battery indicator light to confirm charging.

  3. First-Time Setup: For first-time charging, let the device charge for at least 3 hours before use.

Troubleshooting Steps

Mobile PAD Setup:

If the Ingenico device is not charging after being plugged in for several hours:

  1. Check the Y-Cable Connection: Ensure it’s securely connected to the Ingenico device and seated properly in the case.
  2. Replace the Y-Cable: Try swapping the Y-cable with a new one to test if the cable is faulty.
  3. Direct Charging: Plug the Ingenico device directly into a USB-C power cord and adapter to check if it charges independently.

Stationary (Docked) Setup:

If the docked Ingenico device isn’t powering on:

  1. Remove from Dock: Take the device out of the dock and connect it directly to a USB-C cable. Wait a few seconds for the red battery indicator light.
  2. Test with a New Cable/Adapter: Try using a different USB-C cable and power adapter, preferably one known to work.
  3. Check the Power Outlet: Ensure the outlet or charging station is functional by testing it with other devices.
