When a site enters Offline Mode, all devices (PADs) stop communicating with each other. This means every order, table, and payment only exists on the device it was taken on until the system is back online.
Key limitations in Offline Mode:
- Syncing between PADs
- Facial recognition is not available, and the user must log in with a 4 digit PIN
- No manager approvals from other devices
- No 3rd party orders (ex: delivery integrations)
- No Tabit Guest, Tabit Order, Tabit Feedback, Tabit Kitchen (KDS), or In-Room Dining
- No EOD reports or any other reports (all reports rely on the cloud)
- No use of gift cards
- Tabit Shift - in the event the Site remains in Offline Mode for an extended period of time, tip information will not be synced
- No re-connection via mobile hotspots (must wait for the original network to stabilize)
- No manual card entry (swipe/tap/chip only)
- Different payment flow: customer details MUST be entered and the order is finalized only after the Thank You screen
What you can do:
- Take and store orders on each PAD
- Process payments (stored locally until the PAD goes back online)
- Printing Checks and Kitchen Tickets (requires LAN connection). Receipts and kitchen tickets can be printed in Offline Mode only if the PAD remains connected to the LAN and is receiving the offline broadcast from the Spooler. PADs that are taken offline individually will not be able to print
Additionally, most functionality of the Operation screen will be unavailable while in Offline Mode, as seen below:
Follow the steps below to learn how to take Orders while in Offline Mode:
-
Orders can be taken as normal, however certain payment methods will not be available
If the Site works with Tabit Guest or Tabit Kitchen (KDS) they will need to continue to handle reservations and kitchen tickets manually
-
If the customer chooses to pay with a credit card, the Offline Payment Flow will be prompted, as seen below
Moving to Offline Mode automatically triggers the Offline Payment Flow. Learn more about Offline Payment Mode here
